What are E-Numbers?
E-numbers are codes for substances that are used as food additives and have been assessed for use within the European Union.

Each food additive is assigned a unique number, following the format 'E' followed by three or four digits. These are grouped by function:

  • E100-E199: Colors
  • E200-E299: Preservatives
  • E300-E399: Antioxidants, acidity regulators
  • E400-E499: Thickeners, stabilizers, emulsifiers
  • E500-E599: Acidity regulators, anti-caking agents
